To the incoming freshman class:
This past Sunday I sat with my family watching my son and the many soon to be Valley Torah High School students graduate from EMEK Hebrew Academy. While I sat there as a proud father and educator (I had taught some of the graduates), I was also thinking about all the other recent middle school graduates about to enter Valley Torah as freshman.
First, let me wish you all a hearty Mazel Tov! Mazel Tov to all the graduates for your hard work and commitment to your education and Jewish life. Mazel Tov to all the parents who have supported your education for all these years. Finally, Mazel Tov to the schools that provided you with the excellent education you received preparing you for high school. It is a strong partnership between the school, student, family and community that educates a Jewish child and, having reviewed the list of incoming freshman, it has clearly been a highly successful partnership that I am confident will continue at Valley Torah.
While sitting at the graduation, it also dawned on me that this class will not only be the 2014 freshman class at Valley Torah, but will also be my freshman class in perpetuity. I hope to welcome freshman classes to Valley Torah for many years to come, but this will not only be your freshman year, it will be mine as well. I can already envision your graduation and me pointing this out. We will share a deep sigh, parents will be reaching for the kleenex and one of you will prematurely shout “class of 2018 forever” before the final ceremonies come to an end.
As incoming Principal of General Studies, I am proud to start this new chapter with you. I am excited to be at the helm of a Jewish high school passionate about academic excellence, deep and meaningful learning, creativity and innovation and maintaining a supportive Jewish learning environment for its students and staff. I am proud to be part of a team of highly educated, caring and thoughtful administrators and staff who are at Valley Torah to support you and ensure your continued success. I am also proud to be a principal of a group of amazing and talented incoming freshman as well as the rest of the fantastic student body.
Together with you, I know we will have an wonderful freshman year that we will long remember as the first year we both started Valley Torah and all the great things that year brought. I wish you all great success in high school and look forward to supporting you at every step of the way.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I will see you all very soon!
